What Navy SEALs can teach Producers

Leaders are made, not born.

Vince Lombardi

When all is said and done, leadership is the primary responsibility of a Producer. A common fallacy of leadership is that one is born with the ability to lead. As Lombardi said, that is not true.

Most leadership failures are a result of that leader’s own ego. And, like all leaders, I’ve learned that lesson the hard way. At times, I’ve put my own needs before those of my team and we’ve all suffered for it. Thankfully, the cost of weak leadership for a Producer, is usually only money and time.

This video, featuring former Navy SEALS … Jocko Willink and Lief Babin … really struck a chord with me. They know the value of setting aside one’s ego for the good of the team and the mission.
